Avalanche's Story
Avalanche was a stray. He liked to sit in the wheel well of a Chevrolet Avalanche pick-up truck parked in front of our previous veterinarian's office, hence the name Avalanche. They rescued him from a storm drain just before a major thunderstorm hit. The severe rainstorm would have meant certain death by drowning.
Avalanche needed a home so they called us to see if we would consider adopting him. Of course, we said yes. We later discovered that at some point, before we adopted him, Avalanche's pelvis had been broken. Being a cat, his bones healed on their own, but not exactly as they should have. As a result, Avalanche had a difficult time with food and was constantly constipated.
Our previous vet retired and sold her practice, so we decided it was time to find a veterinarian closer to our home in Lovettsville. By chance we met a couple at the Blue Ridge Grill in Leesburg who spoke very highly of the Catoctin Veterinarian Clinic and how the clinic had saved their cat's life. Since Avalanche was still having a difficult time with serious constipation, we decided to take him there.
Ten years later, Avalanche is doing incredibly well. Starting with his initial exam and diagnostic x-rays by Dr. Robbins, and working with vet tech Sue, we put together a treatment plan for Avalanche consisting of a very specific diet, medication, and regular monitoring of his condition. And it worked!
We consider ourselves to be truly fortunate to have found the Catoctin Veterinarian Clinic. The veterinarians and staff are knowledgeable, personable, and caring. In addition to Avalanche, the rest of our cats have their own set of medical issues. We are confident they will all receive excellent and professional treatment at Catoctin Vet throughout their lives.
The staff and doctors at Catoctin have always been the friendliest to me and my pups! I drive all the way from DC to see them, and they always treat us like an extended member of their family. They are caring, professional, courteous, and welcoming.

In our experience, we have never had a dog be as excited to go to the vet as our Dachshunds, Buzz and Woody. We have taken our dogs to Dr. Conway and the team at Catoctin for many years. I have lived in many places in the US and they are the best team I have ever used for my dogs. From the beginning of our time bringing our dogs to Catoctin, they were treated, as were we, as members of a team and family that focuses on what is best for the dogs. I followed Dr. Conway from another clinic to Catoctin Veterinary Clinic when she joined the practice in 2007. She has taken care of my three dogs from the time they were puppies and I've always trusted her completely. The staff at the clinic is amazing. Not only do they all know who I am but they remember things about my dogs....who likes which treats and who has allergies and who likes face scratches. I've always known that my dogs are getting the best possible care and love when they're at Catoctin Vet. I recently had to put down my oldest and luckily Dr. Conway was working that day and was able to take care of her. The staff was so incredibly thoughtful and kind and it made such a terrible day a little less painful.

We switched to Catoctin Vet in 2011 when our long-time vet, Dr. Pruckowski, joined the practice. On our first visit, we were greeted at the door by a handsome Corgi named Tony Appleby, who became a dear friend. I knew almost immediately that we were going to be very happy at the clinic. During the happy and sad times, everyone we encounter is friendly, kind, patient and compassionate. When Dr. P retired a couple of years ago, Dr. Henneke stepped in and became our primary vet. He's already saved the lives of two of my beloved cats (Poppy and Annabelle). My cats love him (most of them, anyway)! Dr. Robbins and Dr. Geier are always ready to jump in during an emergency and have provided valuable guidance and excellent care as well. We're so blessed to have everyone at Catoctin Vet in our lives.

Our family started coming to Catoctin Veterinary Clinic in 1980, when Dr. Clinton Pease owned the clinic. We moved to Georgia in 1992 and would still travel to Virginia to see family and bring our cocker for her yearly exams at Catoctin Vet. When Dr. Robbins took over the clinic we were so happy to see him maintain the same small and caring foundation the clinic was built on. Over the years we have seen Dr. Robbins, Dr. Conway and Dr. Geier for different ailments and concerns. All of the doctors are extremely capable, caring, and put our animals' health first. We have total confidence that they will always do the right thing for our pets.
